Lesson date: 13/09/16
In today's lesson, we were split into two groups and given the title 'Terrorist or Freedom Fighter?' and asked to create 5 minute long piece based around this title. We brainstormed a range of ideas and came to and idea where we wanted to show how terrorists view themselves (as freedom fighters), how media presents terrorism, and how terrorism is seen in a victim's eyes. We decide that at the start, we would have about 30 seconds/ 1 minute of a collection of TV news reports and footage of 9/11 (inspiration came from the start of American Idiot the musical) to show how the media presents terrorism, then do a movement piece brainwashing someone to become a terrorist using the song 'Bang Bang' by Green Day because this song is about a shooting from the shooter's point of view, saying 'I want to be a celebrity martyr' and "Bang bang! Give me fame!" which shows terrorists only do what they do for recognition and fame. We then decided to have Joe read a poem about 9/11 from a victim's perspective. I would then play guitar while the poem is being read to heighten the emotion and add dramatics to the atmosphere.
